3D/4D Scans

3d baby scans and 4d baby scans

Recent advances in ultrasound scanning means that you now have a chance to get a peak of what your baby will look like before it is even born.

3D scans produce a three-dimensional image of your baby, so that you can see surface structures much better and really start to see what he or she is going to look like.

The fourth dimension is time, creating a moving 3D image, so small movements, such as your baby smiling or moving its hands, can be captured in a video clip

There is no “right” time to do the scan, as it is very dependent on the position that the baby is in and is a balance between waiting until the baby is chubby enough to look “cute”, but not leaving it too late that it is too squashed up.

Our experience at Beard Mill Clinic is that 26 to 28 weeks is the best time to try, but Victoria will try later and can get some great images if the baby is in a good position.

All the images and video clips are put on to a memory stick and given to you (free-of-charge) to enjoy at home and share with friends and family. But a 3D / 4D scan at Beard Mill Clinic is never just an opportunity to take nice pictures; Victoria will always do a thorough scan of the baby, including:

  • Measurements of the baby to make sure that it is growing well.
  • Looking at the wellbeing markers, such as the amount of fluid around the baby and the blood flow through the umbilical cord.
  • Confirmation that the baby’s structure seems to be normal.

It can also be a good opportunity to check the baby’s gender if you want to know, but Victoria will keep this a secret if you don’t!

It is possible to combine both the wellbeing scan and 3D scan and the best time for this is 28 weeks.

“ I loved how you took so much time to examine the baby and just give me a chance to watch her moving inside me. All of the other scans I had (including two other private ones) were very rushed in comparison, so this was an experience I will always cherish.”
