Ultrasound scans in pregnancy

Have your own baby ultrasound scan at our private pregnancy clinic near Oxford

A baby ultrasound scan can be performed at any stage in pregnancy, providing you and health professionals with key information about your baby's wellbeing. This in turn helps to plan appropriate antenatal care and subsequent monitoring, so ensuring the best care for mother and baby. In most cases baby ultrasound scans provide reassurance of normality, which for most parents is invaluable. This is particularly important during the early stages of pregnancy when other signs of your baby's well-being are more difficult to determine.

Helping you get the care your family needs

Unfortunately in some cases, an abnormality, or a suspicion of an abnormality, may be detected. When this happens parents are given as much information as possible to help them understand the potential problems and subsequent management of their pregnancy. What is more, we provide continued support for you and your family. Dr Victoria Heath can personally arrange a referral direct to your own NHS consultant or liaise with your GP to ensure continuity of care

Which is the right type of baby ultrasound scan for you?

At the private Beard Mill Clinic near Oxford we offer several types of scans:

Viability scan - This scan can be carried out as early as 6 or 7 weeks and up to 11 weeks to check the date of your pregnancy and the baby's progress.

11-14 week scan - At Beard Mill Clinic this scan includes a thorough nuchal scan to establish the likelihood of common fetal abnormalities such as Down's Syndrome.

Anomaly scan - Carried out at 18-23 weeks, this scan thoroughly checks the growth and development of the baby. Scans at this stage can also reveal the sex of the baby, if parents wish to know.

3D and 4D scans - These can provide three dimensional images of your baby as stills or digital movies and is best undertaken at 26 weeks.
